Spiritual Strength For Each Day
“And Elijah said unto him, Tarry I pray thee, here; for the Lord hath sent me to Jordan. And he said, As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. And they two went on” (2 Kings 2:6).
The Jordan harbors a secret: it is the secret of authority. When the Lord wanted to take the prophet Elijah to heaven, Elisha followed him. Elisha desired to have authority for his great task at all costs. The way for him led to the Jordan, through the Jordan actually. Elijah said to him, “The Lord hath sent me to Jordan” (verse 6).
The enemy tried everything to keep Elisha from following Elijah decisively through the Jordan. The sons of the prophets tried to distract him, but he answered them twice, “Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace” (verse 5).
Have you realized how the enemy tries to make you leave the narrow way, even by religious means? Have you noticed how he tries by all manner and devices to distract you from your decision to go through the Jordan of death with the heavenly Elijah, Jesus Christ? Do what Elisha did. Tell the tempter to be quiet, and cling to the Lord, even if the others do not come with you. Elijah and Elisha both stood by the Jordan. Many remain standing afar, but the true believer follows the heavenly Elijah, Jesus, through the Jordan of death.
