Spiritual Strength For Each Day
“And Elijah took his mantle, and wrapped it together, and smote the waters, and they were divided hither and thither, so that they two went over on dry ground” (2 Kings 2:8).
Elijah suggested the “way of least resistance” to Elisha three times, in verses 2, 4 and 6, with the words, “Tarry here.” But Elisha answered each time in holy determination, “As the Lord liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee.” Will you not also say, “I will not let Thee go except Thou bless me. I want to be united with You in Your death. I want to go through the Jordan with You. I want to remain on the cross with You.” If you say this decisively, you will experience the wonderful thing that He, the heavenly Elijah, has already paved the way for you. This means practically that it is possible to go with Him “through the Jordan,” for He is going ahead of you. And when you reach the other side, make the holy decision to go the whole way, the straight and narrow way, the way of dying, with Him. Then He will open up to you all His fullness, “And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee” (verse 9). What an immeasurable fullness the acceptance of the death of Jesus opens up to us! If you will say yes to it, He will say to you, “Ask what I shall do for you.”
