Spiritual Strength For Each Day
“For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul” (Leviticus 17:11).
What tremendous words! Here the Spirit of God explains in what way God reconciled and reconciles us to Himself, and how we can claim before the holy face of God that we are reconciled to Him in spite of our sins: through the shed blood of Jesus. The blood of Jesus Christ is a tremendous power. Let us attempt now in spirit to imagine what an eternal power was (and is up to the present day) in His blood, when the Son of God poured out His eternal life. In Matthew 27:50-52, this overwhelming event is described, “Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost. And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; and the graves were opened.” What actually took place under the impact of the shedding of the blood of the eternal Son of God is ultimately inconceivable. God is induced to do the greatest thing of all for us when we claim the blood of Jesus in faith: He forgives; he blots out our sins. He acknowledges the atoning blood of His Son.
