Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“Be watchful, and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die: for I have not found thy works perfect before God” (Revelation 3:2).

What dies if we are not watchful? The vital connection with the Son of God! The call of a Gentile came to the sleeping man, Jonah, a preacher of the Word of God, “What meanest thou, O sleeper?” (Jonah 1:6). Or, as the NIV puts it, “How can you sleep?” Our blessed Lord said in one of the hardest hours of His life to His sleeping disciples, “What, could ye not watch with me one hour?” (Matthew 26:40). It seems to me that as this fatal, all-destroying spiritual sleep threatens to come over us more and more, the nearer the hour of the return of Jesus comes. “While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept” (Matthew 25:5). Wake up! Why are you sleeping? What is the reason that you have gotten into this state of sleep? We have already read it, “For I have not found thy works perfect before God.” This is not about your good works, but about the works of Christ, which have not been found perfect in you because your surrender is incomplete. Here we have the reason for all the trouble in your life: incomplete surrender. Will you wait longer to surrender yourself to Him completely?
