Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“Whom have I in heaven but thee? And there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee” (Psalm 73:25).

The danger is great today that we hear the Word of God, read it, and yet do not live it out practically. What we need is knowledge of the Lord in our spirits, not in our minds or our understanding. Those who lack spiritual knowledge lack everything. Our outward actions may be in complete accordance with faith in Jesus Christ, and yet the Lord says through Hosea, “I desired mercy, and not sacrifice; and the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings” (Hosea 6:6). You may be asking, “How can I attain to greater knowledge of Him?” The answer is, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom [or knowledge]” (Psalm 111:10). Those who do not know Him cannot love Him with all their hearts. Such a person has emotional feelings toward the Lord, but the all-controlling love in the spirit is lacking. This lack of love for the Lord is perceptible and visible in our self-love, which is expressed in vanity, self-esteem and bigotry. The Lord is seeking, however, those who love Him with all their hearts. In Deuteronomy 13:3, it even says, “The Lord your God proveth you, to know whether ye love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul.”
