Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“…whom he hath appointed heir of all things” (Hebrews 1:2).

Jesus Christ is the heir of all things. What has He inherited, then? All that which Adam lost through his sin. In Biblical terms this means, that which the first Adam lost through his disobedience, the last Adam, Jesus Christ, won back through His obedience. He is the heir of all things. You may have an earthly inheritance, but when you die you will have to leave it all behind. If you are a child of God, however, then you can become a joint-heir with Christ, “And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ” (Romans 8:17). The same verse continues, however, “…if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.” To receive the inheritance is not the same as having eternal life. The Bible promises, “Every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life” (John 6:40). We received eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ. Now we must be willing not only to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, but also to follow Him, even suffer as He suffered. That is simply part of being a Christian. Why do you have to suffer? Through suffering the Lord separates you from the things of this earth and binds you to His heart. Through suffering you are made ready for glory.
