Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip?” (John 14:9).

It is of vital importance for Christians to grow in the knowledge of the Lord Jesus.  When the Bible speaks of this knowledge, however, it does not mean an intellectual knowledge of Him, but a spiritual one. The spiritual knowledge of the Lord Jesus is transformed in and through us into streams of living water. The glorious fruit of the knowledge of Jesus Christ is that you will become conformed to His death. Paul spoke of this in Philippians 3:10 when he said, “That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death.” What tremendous words! Those who know Him are willing to be conformed to his death on the cross. This means the end of our own works, the end of the lust of the flesh. The acceptance of the cross for our flesh has always been our greatest battle. We fight and wrestle, but often do not know the crucified Savior and therefore the mystery of His cross, His victory, “It is finished!” (John 19:30). The victory over our sinful flesh has long since been won. You only need to be willing to be conformed to His death. You must acknowledge, “I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing” (Romans 7:18), and then remain united with Jesus on the cross.
