Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee” (John 21:17).

The Lord’s questions always reveal our innermost feelings. If the Lord asks you today, “Lovest thou me?” and you ponder on this question, you will suddenly notice how He has touched a part of you that has long since been forgotten, and you are moved. Then the actual truth, which has been covered for so long, breaks out of the depths of your heart, “Yes, Lord, I love You because You first loved me!” Peter also began to notice how he loved Jesus when he was asked this question. It was a revelation to realize how much he loved the Lord, and he said full of amazement, “Lord, thou knowest all things….”
With what patience, determination and wisdom the Lord dealt with Peter, who had denied and cursed Him out of sheer fear and cowardice! The Lord never asks questions before the right time has come. Very likely, He will one day take you aside, perhaps today, and, without speaking of your sins, ask you, “Lovest thou me?”
