Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another” (Galatians 5:13).

If we read the above verse carefully, the question of our calling is already answered. To what are we, as children of God, called? To liberty! Paul also says this in Romans 8:21, “Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.” A person who is born again comes out of the slavery of sin and attains to the glorious liberty of the children of God. Such people are free of guilt; they are free sons and daughters of the living God. Paul also pointed out the danger, for this liberty in Christ Jesus can be abused, “…only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh” (Galatians 5:13). What should we do with this wonderful liberty in the Lord Jesus Christ, then? Can we simply live for ourselves? No, the liberty that we have through the Lord should be subordinated to the Spirit of God. We cannot dispose of our liberty at our own discretion, but the Spirit of God must be in charge of our life.
