Spiritual Strength For Each Day
“I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me” (John 17:23).
Just how much importance our Lord Jesus Christ attached to the indwelling of the Father and the Son through the Holy Spirit is shown us in the high-priestly prayer, as also His command in Matthew 5:48, “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.” When we are one with the Lord Jesus, we will be conformed to His image, just as Paul said so majestically in 1 Corinthians 6:17, “He that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.” Thus, the Father and the Son are completely one with those who love Him and are loved of Him through the Holy Spirit. “That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one” (John 17:21-22). Here the Lord is speaking of the organic unity with His own: the Father and the Son in His own, and they in Him through the Holy Spirit. Thus, as born-again Christians, we are the temple of the Holy Spirit.
