Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“…He that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him” (John 14:21).

Such a doer of the Word not only comes into the wonderful cycle of the love of the Father and the Son, but the Father and the Son will also come to him and dwell in him!  This promise, that the Lord Jesus will reveal Himself to those who keep His Word and thereby prove that they love Him, was fulfilled for the first time after the resurrection of Jesus. Something very moving took place then. Jesus revealed Himself in a special way to the disciple who had failed the most through his threefold denial of the Lord, but who loved Him the most! The Lord wanted to lead to perfection this very disciple, Peter. For this reason, He asked him three times the all-important question, “He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee” (John 21:17). As often as we speak about this verse, we cannot say plainly enough that the Lord does not mention Peter’s sins, but only asks him whether he loves Him.
