Spiritual Strength For Each Day
“…Behold, he prayeth” (Acts 9:11).
These three words are very important. The Lord Himself addresses them to Ananias when He tells him to go to Saul of Tarsus. The Lord also describes where he is to be found, namely in the street called “Straight.” There he finds the blind Saul, of whom the Lord says, “Behold, he prayeth.” The Lord knows that Ananias and all the Christians in Damascus fear Saul, but He sees more than this: “Behold, he prayeth.” Ananias is in consternation when he receives the order to go to Saul of Tarsus because Saul is praying, and he objects, “Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem” (verse 13). Ananias is so intimidated by Saul that he even contradicts the Lord. When the Lord says, however, “Behold, he prayeth,” this means that everything has changed in Saul’s life. It is not only about our praying, but that we pray in such a way that our prayers really do reach God’s ear. Only then will they have power. Prayer changes everything, but the one who prays is also changed. Saul of Tarsus was originally spiritually dead, but his testimony later reveals to us the way to victorious prayer.
