Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do” (Romans 7:19).

Is this a picture of you? You would like to have victory over your temper, your lust, your sins, and yet you do not have victory. Why not? Because your surrender is not complete.  “I want to live for Jesus,” you say, “but I don’t have the strength!” God does not expect any strength of you. On the contrary, if you follow Jesus, you will not become strong but remain as weak as you were before. And yet it is possible to live a life of victory, for the victory of Jesus on Calvary’s cross is a reality. There on the cross He cried out, “It is finished” (John 19:30)! At the moment you made your decision for Jesus, did you suddenly receive strength to overcome? No. You will remain as weak as before, in fact become even weaker. However, through your clear decision you appropriate strength you do not have in yourself; you now walk in the strength of the Lord. Beyond your “Yes” to Jesus, the whole victorious power of Jesus Christ is ready for you. Do not look at your sins; do not look at your weakness. God knows all that! He knows what feeble creatures we are. Do not look upon your cares and worries either, but take refuge in the strong arms of Jesus.
