Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked” (1 John 2:6).

I  want to ask you in great earnest, are you abiding in Jesus, in His death; are you crucified with Him? I know that our flesh does not want this. I heard of a brother who was wronged by fellow Christians and continually prayed the one sentence, “Let the nails hold, Lord!” He wanted to say, “Lord, help me not to come down from the cross and justify myself!” Is not this the victory of Jesus, the Lamb of God, who could have exerted his majesty, because all power had been given unto Him, “If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross” (Matthew 27:40)? Could He not have come down? Of course He could! But the Lamb overcame. He walked with God to the end. His walk with God was expressed in His absolute obedience unto death, even death on the cross. If you want to walk with God—and this is possible! —then Calvary is the starting point. There your proud nature will come to its end. Something completely new can begin in your life today, if you humble yourself before God and say, “My God, I will begin to walk with You now by letting myself be led where I do not want to go—starting at Calvary.”
