“…Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me. And many charged him that he should hold his peace: but he cried the more a great deal, Thou son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood still,  and commanded him to be called. And they call the blind man, saying unto him, Be of good comfort, rise; he calleth thee. And he, casting away his garment, rose, and came to Jesus” (Mark 10:47-50).

Blind Bartimaeus hears that Jesus of Nazareth is passing by and begins to cry out, “Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me.” This annoys the sanctimonious crowd. But Bartimaeus continues. What does this cry from the bottom of his heart produce? Jesus stands still! Does He heal him? Does He take away his blindness immediately? He first asks Bartimaeus, “What wilt thou that I should do unto thee?” (verse 51), although He knows that Bartimaeus is blind. This should teach us that we can also tell Jesus clearly what our wishes are. The Lord wants us to tell Him exactly what we desire of Him, although He knows everything about you. When Bartimaeus tells Him his wish, “Lord, that I might receive my sight,” Jesus immediately intervenes and says to him, “Go thy way; thy faith hath made thee whole. And immediately he received his sight, and followed Jesus in the way” (verse 52).
