Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“And they said one to another, Did not our heart burn within us, while he talked with us by the way, and while he opened to us the scriptures?” (Luke 24:32).

The hardest thing for a child of God is when he no longer understands the ways of the Lord. This is what happened to those two disciples who walked together from Jerusalem to Emmaus. They were deeply shocked. Jesus had disappointed them. They had thought He was Israel’s Messiah, but now He had let Himself be crucified. Why did He do that?  Why didn’t He prove His omnipotence? As they discussed this together, a stranger joined them. They poured out their disappointed and sorrowful hearts to Him, the stranger whom they did not know. But what did they hear from the mouth of this stranger? Pretentious words? No, it says, “And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself” (Luke 24:27). Even now, they did not know that it was Jesus Himself speaking to them. Only later on, when He ate with them, did they recognize Him. The two disciples who had lost their faith in the Lord experienced that He was nearest to them in their terrible disappointment. Jesus was and is today greater than everything. He wants to transform your disappointment into wonderful joy!
