Spiritual Strength For Each Day
“…But ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God” (1 Corinthians 6:11).
A person who has received Jesus has become spotless and justified before Him; that’s a fact. But the same Paul who wrote the above words also exclaims, “For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing” (Romans 7:18). Is this a contradiction? No! Note the reason in 2 Corinthians 4:7, “…that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.” As children of God, we live continually in this conflict. On the one hand, we are confronted daily with the fact that there is no good in us. On the other hand, we have the excellency of the power of God at our disposal. How does this power of God become effectual in our lives? Through the obedience of faith! The more we are tried, and the more we claim His victory through faith, i.e. the obedience of faith, the more the Lord is praised and glorified. How could we prove the reality of the victory of Jesus otherwise, if the presence of sin was taken away? Now, however, we may rejoice in spite of our sinful flesh, in the face of the enemy, “Thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:57).
