Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“And lest I should be exalted above measure through the abundance of the revelations, there was given to me a thorn in the flesh, the messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I should be exalted above measure” (2 Corinthians 12:7).

Another of Satan’s hostile tactics is the frontal attack on the body, soul and spirit of children of God. That is war on all fronts. Paul knew this, as a servant of the Lord. The chronic satanic attack on his body also affected his spirit and his soul. What counter-tactics do we have to employ when the enemy attacks us frontally? How can we stand still? Our counter-tactics must be that we in no way launch a counter-attack, but that we seek counsel with our highest Authority, Jesus Christ. This is just what Paul did. When he saw others oppressed by Satan’s servants, he commanded them to depart in the name of Jesus. When he was himself attacked, however, he turned to the Lord, “For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me” (verse 8). And then the Lord Jesus Christ, the greatest Strategist, did a miraculous thing: He opened up new sources of grace to His servant and said, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness” (verse 9). In this way the devil’s tactics rebounded off of Paul.
