Spiritual Strength For Each Day
“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds” (2 Corinthians 10:4).
Everything depends on which direction we are looking! Joshua had the discouraging picture of Jericho before his eyes, but he directed his eyes upwards, “And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand” (Joshua 5:13). Through this meeting with the Victor, Joshua was victorious over Jericho. This was a pure victory of faith. The tactic of the people of Israel was only that they followed the strategy of God. The warfare of God was and is completely illogical for the human intellect. Israel did not wage war against Jericho, but simply surrounded the enemy through the presence of the Lord, for they bore the Ark of the Covenant in their midst. The prayerful surrounding of the enemy with the presence of the Lord made the power of the enemy collapse. From God’s perspective, victory had already taken place. The presence of God was enough for victory at that time, and it is enough today! This is the secret of our heavenly Strategist: it is already finished! The victory is ours, and this assurance makes us strong in the fight of faith.
