Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps” (Jeremiah 10:23).

We can never plan our way ourselves, but have to adapt to the steps of the Lord and to walk where He walks. The way with God is a clearly determined path. Jesus walked this way with His Father. The way that He trod with God, however, is against our will, against our nature, against our plans. Friendship with God means enmity against the flesh. There are many who wanted to follow the Lord, who had given up their jobs, maybe, yet they walk as they want to and not as Jesus walked. By nature we do not want to walk as He walked, for God begins at Calvary. Only there where you surrender yourself, where you remain in the death of Jesus, will you walk as He walked. Only when your old man has disappeared in the death of the Lord Jesus, will the new man be able to walk with God. The vital union with Him begins where our old lives die. “I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me” (Galatians 2:20). Only then will our new walk with the living God begin.
