Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever” (Psalm 23:5-6).

The 23rd Psalm is a wonderfully rounded-off promise, which the enemy cannot destroy. This is tremendous: although we are in the valley of the shadow of death, we need not fear evil because we are walking in paths of righteousness. We even have fellowship with the Lord because He has prepared a table for us. I want to tell you with great assurance, that the Lord also wants to lead you in His paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. You only have to let Him lead you. It is often the case, however, that we are led in paths of righteousness through dark valleys where we do not want to go, “Another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not” (John 21:18).

These dark valleys are increasing, because we children of God are being led through the dark valley of the end times. It is becoming darker and darker. Isaiah said, “The morning cometh, and also the night” (Isaiah 21:12). Let us not be surprised if it is often dark for a long time on the paths of righteousness. At the end it will be light, for on the other shore our exalted, blessed Lord Jesus Christ is waiting. He is our goal, and we will see Him soon—very soon!
