Spiritual Strength For Each Day
“Wherefore doth a living man complain, a man for the punishment of his sins?” (Lamentations 3:39).
It is a small step from lamenting to complaining. It is fateful when we as believers complain just because we are experiencing hardship, and go from lamenting to complaining. When we do this, we are denying clear statements of Scripture, such as Romans 8:28, “We know that all things work together for good to them that love God…,” or 2 Corinthians 4:17, “For our light affliction, which is but for a moment….” When you begin to see the blessings in your life that come from apparent hardships, even catastrophes, gratitude to the Lord will flow from your lips. We ask the Lord to let streams of living water flow from us, but we are not willing to accept the fact that the bed of our stream must be dug deep and wide. The depressing situation that you may find yourself in now will turn into glorious streams of blessing when you begin to thank the Lord. If you have to go through a period of deep despondency, an increasing of your spiritual personality is in the plans ahead of you. Learn, therefore, to practice the words of the Holy Scriptures, “Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ” (Ephesians 5:20).
