Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“Yea, in the way of thy judgments, O Lord, have we waited for thee” (Isaiah 26:8).

We have need of power and inner strength. This lies in waiting, as we read in Isaiah 30:15, “In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength.” This quiet, confident waiting is not ours by nature. We find it difficult. Why? Because we are simultaneously waiting for many other things, and when our expectations are not immediately fulfilled, we are disappointed. We must learn to wait for one person alone: Jesus!  It is not the waiting in itself, but waiting for the Lord that will not be put to shame. This waiting for God is uninterrupted expectation. The words of the Psalmist have deep significance, “On thee do I wait all the day” (Psalm 25:5). In other words, waiting unceasingly. Outwardly we have good and bad days, but constant waiting for the Lord makes our hearts free from the ebb and flow of our emotions. The Bible says, “It is a good thing that the heart be established with grace” (Hebrews 13:9). This establishing grace is only made available to us, however, in constant waiting for Him, “But I will hope continually” (Psalm 71:14).
