Spiritual Strength For Each Day
“It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness” (Lamentations 3:22-23).
Let us always remember that it is of the Lord’s mercy that we are even alive. Another translation reads, “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed.” We will soon begin a new year; therefore, learn to live out of the fullness of divine mercy and love. Unfortunately, most Christians find this very hard. Why? Because grace is undeserved favor, and who wants to live out of undeserved favor? Only a child of God who is growing in self-recognition is able to. We actually have to learn to hate ourselves; only then are we capable of receiving the fullness of the grace of Jesus Christ, as John 1:16 says, “Of his fullness have all we received, and grace for grace.” When we receive this grace, then, we are living in inner and outer peace and serenity. Then you will say thankfully, “It is of the Lord’s grace that I am still here, that I am alive, that I know Jesus and can follow Him!”
