Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“…All things are become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17).

These are precious words, particularly now as we approach the beginning of a new year. The Lord has not only made all things new, but He is continually making all things new, ever deeper, ever clearer. God accomplishes this miracle of inner renewal in the crucible of our suffering and misery, as it says in Isaiah 48:10, “Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction.” When we begin to see all dark and negative things in this light, we receive a glorious perspective. Of course we feel surrounded by hostile powers, but they are all overcome at Calvary’s cross. Think of our highly exalted Lord and Savior! With what sovereignty and inner peace did He react to the hostile powers surrounding Him—they could not touch Him! Let us learn from the Lord Jesus how we can remain untouched by the enemy powers. What was His secret? He was in the Father, and the Father was in Him. In this way He was invincible. The invincibility of a child of God who abides in his Lord is a wonderful reality, “…That wicked one toucheth him not” (1 John 5:18).
