Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death” (Proverbs 14:12).

On the border between the old and the New Year, many people become contemplative. Their thoughts can be quite depressing, because they are always about the things of this earth. There is the thought, for instance, “How quickly I am getting old!” This is true. If you do not have Jesus, you go downhill rapidly. It really is true that a life without “the life” is meaningless and a great tragedy because, in spite of all your seeking and creating, your deepest longings are never stilled. This is why you see with fear the dark night of death approaching, without hope and without comfort. You have reason to be more sorrowful every year, for you have an uncertain future ahead of you. Blessed are those, however, who have Christ in their hearts. Such people have the hope of glory! It is not the case, then, that growing old is “getting older,” but you are actually “getting younger.” Yes, we can even say, the older the better! This is not an empty phrase, my friend, but a wonderful fact, for “…though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day” (2 Corinthians 4:16).
