Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all” (Hebrews 10:10).

What is sanctification? We find the deepest meaning of sanctification or holiness in Hebrews 13:12 (NKJV), “Therefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with His own blood, suffered outside the gate.” Then follows the demand, “Therefore let us go forth to Him, outside the camp, bearing his reproach” (verse 13).

Jesus went out to sanctify us. We must go out to Him to be sanctified. The question is, are you willing to be sanctified, that is, to be set apart with Jesus? Is it your desire to let go of people, possessions and things in order to be completely united with Him? The path of sanctification is a lonely one, for it leads outside to Jesus. It leads there where Jesus was; not just to the cross but on the cross. Sanctification is vital, for if we do not want to go where Jesus was, we cannot come to where He is now. This is why it says in Hebrews 12:14, “Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord.”

Time is pressing; the hour of our meeting with Jesus in the clouds of heaven is approaching rapidly. Let us therefore continually bear in mind, “God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness” (1 Thessalonians 4:7).
