Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it” (Ecclesiastes 12:7).

We are all on the way to the one goal, the eternal God. Innumerable people have attempted to escape this inevitable goal, but in vain. Those who are reconciled to the eternal God through the Lord Jesus Christ, however, hasten toward this goal with great joy and purpose. The following are examples of this:

Abraham: The Lord said of him, “Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad” (John 8:56). Abraham’s strong faith made him walk toward the Lord unswervingly.

Jacob: Shortly before his death, he suddenly exclaimed, “I have waited for thy salvation, O Lord” (Genesis 49:18). Jacob hastened toward the Lord, although it seemed as though he was farther away from the goal than ever, for he was in Egypt at that time.

Job: This severely tested man saw the goal he pursued in spite of the greatest suffering. In all his terrible distress, he rejoiced, “I know that my redeemer liveth” (Job 19:25). From these examples we learn that the more we are liberated from the things of this world through suffering, the more clearly we will see the goal, and the better we can hasten toward the Lord.
