Spiritual Strength For Each Day

“Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people” (Hebrews 2:17).

If you follow Jesus, you will have the desire to pass on this saving message to your neighbor. Your efforts to win others for Jesus often encounter hard hearts and strong rejection, however. Why is this? Perhaps it is because you are not walking enough in Jesus’ footsteps to identify yourself with the sinner. We must come down to them, like the Lord Jesus came down to us. Sin in us severs the connection to the Lord, and from this comes our powerlessness where the sinner is concerned. Only when we are one with the person of the Lord Jesus are we able to be one with the lost. This unity with Jesus results in an increasingly priestly attitude. In this way we stand in the gap for such miserable people who are on their way to eternal damnation, and weep for them before the Lord. How wonderful it is when there is nothing between the Lord and your soul, nothing that prevents complete unity with Him. In unity with the Lord, you will receive a heart full of compassion for the lost, and your neighbor will be deeply moved by your true love for Him.
